Three Important Qualities to Success as a Woman in Network Marketing
By Diana Walker
I was a “reluctant” Network Marketer. I really came in kicking and screaming....until I started to receive my checks. I had a really “good” government job, but I was so stressed as they were already making cutbacks in health care, and I was seeing many friends losing their jobs. I also felt so unhappy when I knew that my son had a special event during the day that I could not be part of. In 1996, I joined a company because I absolutely loved the products. Then I became really interested in how Network Marketing worked. I was very skeptical at first. This just seemed too good to be true. I was thinking, “Are there really people earning these large amounts of money from home? There must be a catch!”
I read all the Network Marketing books I could get my hands on, I listened to all the audio material I could, and I attended meetings. Then I started holding my own meetings, and teaching others. By 2003 I was earning $4,000 monthly from part-time networking, and I was able to quit my government job (my J.O.B. - Just Over Broke). This is a dream come true, since I am a single parent. Now I am able to be home full-time for my son and my Mom, who both live with me.
Three key factors brought me into Network Marketing:
- Products
- Money
- Freedom (of time, to work my own hours, to be my own boss)
There were challenges. The first year was my time of education, like going from kindergarten to Grade 12 in Network Marketing! It was very exciting, and I was already helping a friend build her business as my first Director.
On into the second year, and my friend was earning over $1,000 monthly, and my next Directors were coming on board. All was looking wonderful! Then my first Director started having problems at home, and gradually faded out of the picture of Network Marketing. This was my first big disappointment. I remember being ready to quit. I phoned upline, and they encouraged me to keep going. I did, and I’m so glad I did. Three important qualities that have kept me going and contributed to my success are:
- Relationship building
- Communication
- Persisence
As women, we have the inherent skills to be highly successful Network Marketers. So much of it is about relationship and communication—in other words Networking.
1. Relationship Building
- Be interested in others. Don’t just be friends because you want something. Be genuinely interested. My mother always says “A stranger is a friend I haven’t met yet.”
- Be grateful. Being grateful for the small things seems to magically open us up to receive greater blessings to be grateful for.
2. Communication
- Keep in regular contact with all of your prospects, customers and business builders. Naturally, it is so much easier today with the Internet.
- Acknowledge the accomplishments, small and large, of team members.
3. Persistence
- Never give up, never give up, never give up. Just keep on keeping on. There were many times when I would come home from work, make dinner, and spend time with my son. Then I had time to myself. I was exhausted. It would have been so easy to not make the phone calls. But I persisted, I made the calls, I kept on going.
- By being persistent, I do not mean hounding people to join your company. I learned the 4 SWs..... Some Will, Some Won’t, So What?, Someone’s Waiting. Keep persisting, and you will find those who are waiting for you!
- Persistence always pays off and new doors keep opening up.
That’s it! Network Marketing really is about being who you are, sharing with others what you enjoy, and getting paid for it. Add in persistence, and the sky is the limit!
